The Eternal COVID Pandemic

COVID seems to have become a way of life for the entire planet. I am sure that none of us could have ever imagined that this issue would be with us so long. I found it interesting that the first wave of COVID-19 response stopped so abruptly right before the Summer and then again started suddenly with a huge break out in India. My intuition tells me that we may never be without some form or variant of COVID and many of us alive today will ever know what “normal” really means. Right now, the World Health Organization is reporting some new variants that are presented as being serious. The first one is the C.1.2 out of South Africa which is reported as having a high mutation rate while the vaccine is not effective against this strain. Another new mutation that is being reported is the Mu variant that is prevalent out of South America. The Mu variant is reported to be highly transmissible, but the vaccines should be beneficial against this strain.

I did some research on the Centers for Disease Control website regarding new COVID variants. What I found was so many variants that I did not want to try and list them in this article. I am not a scientist, but I do have some experience with diseases, and I do realize that viruses will mutate and change to survive.
